| Welcome to Silencing Critical Voices. The purpose of this journal is to honor the successes of people of all ages that I work with through Bay Area Family Therapy & Training Associates and to hopefully assist some of you who may struggle with similar issues. Each edition of this journal will be a homage to different groups such as women, mothers, men, people of color, therapists etc. with whom I have had the privilege to work with. |
Winter/Spring '00 - This issue offers a rich collection of stories pertaining to relationships in general and the Critical Voices that can haunt them. There are many types of relationships such as relationships with oneself, one's body, intimate partners, children, co-workers. In this issue you will have the opportunity to read about people's experiences of critical voices of motherhood, aloness (being single or isolated), shame, anorexia, heterosexual relationship and work.Winter/Spring '99 - In issue 4, you will get an insiders' view on a wide variety of experiences of critical voices in schools such as depression, stress, procrastination, peer pressure, anorexia, discrimination and violence. You will also get the opportunity to read elementary school students' experiences of minimizing bullying in their classroom as participants of a program that I have created entitled "the Bugging Bug project".
Summer, 1998 - The third issue is on men's experiences of critical voices and the gender role standards they are trained to participate in. It includes powerful and genuine accounts of men's struggles with a variety of critical voices.
Spring, 1998 - focuses on women's experiences of critical voices. We wish to share the wisdom and knowledges that were developed in the workshop, groups, therapy sessions, classes and discussions so that all can feel somewhat connected and empowered by these efforts.
Fall, 1997 - a tribute to kids and teenagers who have successfully reclaimed their lives from problems created by Critical Voices. We share the stories of a 10 years old boy who successfully fought shyness and a 15 years old teenager who defeated self-doubt and a beginning of anorexia.
